The percentage of coverage of the components of the substrate is sampled using the Point Intercept Transec (PIT) method over 25 m every 50 cm. The percentage is then calculated by dividing the number of points of each category by the total number of points (50 per transect). The mean coverage is then computed for each zone.

During notable stress phenomenons (e.g. bleaching), the stressed colonies are coded with a matching suffix.
|CM||Dead coral (Corail mort)||Skeletons of recently dead coral (less than 1 year old) still in place or recently broken. Polyps structures must still be visible and algae cover must be low.|
|MA||Macroalgae||All the non-coralline algaes of big enough size to identify by the naked eye. Encountered genus this far: Turbinaria, Sargassum, Halimeda, Padina, Boodlea, Cyanophycées, Dictyota, Caulerpa, Stegastes turf.|
|DA||Pavement(Dalle)||All the hard compact surfaces even covered with a fine and short turf (less than 5mm) or encrusting algae. It includes dead corals of more than 1 year.|
|D||Rubble (Débris coralliens)||All the free hard corals framents that does not have the shape of the whole colony (e.g. Fungia sp. which is thus not included) of size between 0.2 and 15 cm.|
|S||Sand (Sable)||Sediment of which fragments are of size below 0.2 cm and that do not stay in suspension when stirred.|
